Bad News For Google TV

Google TV in the Logitech review box is built to embrace your cable box. Google TV announces itself to the web, and for that reason--is being blocked by networks, Hulu and others. The thing about Google TV is that it is, at its heart, a text based search engine that hasn't been conceived to deal with the complexity and massive volume of web video.

You see, what video requires isn't what Google built for: text--but rather a different method that mixes technology and human filtering to create signal from noise.

So why are we optimistic about the future of Google TV and web video in general? Web video is great big plum--just waiting to be turned into a plaything for hobbyists, hackers, and software developers. Google knows this--just look at the app market for the Android powered smartphones. Expect a software update in February (Google TV 2.0) that should coincide with the new Android 3.0 OS, named "Honeycomb" that could include the Android Marketplace on Google TV. One day I hope to learn why Google TV was rushed out. Google TV is a software platform that comes equipped with the Android operating system and Google's Chrome browser.

Not only did Google launch a Web TV strategy that required users to shell out money for hardware, such as the Revue or a TV from Sony, but at the same time, competitors such as Netflix offered a much simpler and less-expensive option--they enabled users to watch Web TV with little more than a browser.

Google TV's content strategy also stumbled badly out of the gate. Google set itself up for a headline-grabbing smackdown, and that's what it got when the networks all blocked Google TV access. Google TV isn't the only way the search company is trying to compete in Web-video entertainment. Google's YouTube operation is seeking to become relevant in feature film distribution as well.

Reggie Bush

Reggie Bush, ex the sexy Kim Kardashian, was eager to see football stars and they even cuddle. We love a bit of romance, but what we wouldn't give to be in between that squeeze! Last night Reggie tweeted a snap of the game, along with the caption: "At the Lakers/Hornets game. The crowd is intense! Huge game for both teams!"

A lot of Reggie's fans were asking about Lamar Odom, with one tweeter asking if the New Orleans Saints star had seen his "ex future brother-in-law". Bush could use the pick of Ingram for a reason to force his way out of New Orleans, even though the Saints have said they would like to keep the kick returner and running back.

The Saints would owe Bush $11.3 million in 2011, but there’s no way he will make that. He could force the team to release him instead of taking a pay cut. Sounds like Bush is trying to pave the way to not be in the Big Easy in the near future.

Bollywood News: Hrithik & Priyanka face fire mishap on the sets of ‘Agneepath’

A mishap with fire took place while shooting an aarti scene for Karan Johar Productions’ next ‘Agneepath’ starring Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra. While Hrithik faced minor burns, Priyanka did not suffer any burns but her lehenga caught fire and had to be changed.

The scene was based on Ganapati Puja where Hrithik was holding a big thali with several lit diyas (lamps) and doing the aarti. During one rotation, one diya toppled over, spilling hot oil on his hand, thus causing mild burn. Hrithik immediately applied ice on the affected area and the shooting was immediately stopped. Shooting was resumed as soon as his pain subsided. Hrithik took the entire incident in a stride. In fact, he later joked about his injuries being lucky charms for his films.

Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns had an opportunity to make an immediate splash Thursday with the No. 6 overall pick in the NFL draft. Although Taylor is not the huge splash the Browns faithful had hoped for in this draft, credit Cleveland's regime for thinking about the big picture. Taylor also said negative medical reports about his feet leading up to the draft were false. Said Browns general manager Tom Heckert: "They did a CAT scan and he's fine. Heckert also said the Browns are 100 percent satisified that Taylor is a high-character player. He said Brian Norwood, the father of Browns receiver Jordan Norwood, coached Taylor at Penn State and then brought him to Baylor, where he's defensive coordinator.
The Cleveland Browns had an opportunity to make an immediate splash Thursday with the No. 6 overall pick in the NFL draft. First, they traded their sixth pick to the Atlanta Falcons in exchange for five draft picks. Then, the Browns moved back up from No. 27 to No. 21 to select Baylor defensive tackle Phil Taylor in the first round. Although Taylor is not the huge splash the Browns faithful had hoped for in this draft, credit Cleveland's regime for thinking about the big picture.

NFL Draft

It is surely no coincidence that the NFL Draft and sports-talk radio rose to prominence at the same time. Sometimes it seems like sports exist mostly as a giant argument. Look at ESPN: First Take, Pardon the Interruption and Around the Horn are all, on some level, televised arguments. People argue over which show has the best arguments, the kind of meta, argument-within-an-argument-about-an-argument that can lead to a confused man screaming profanities at himself.

The draft is an argument without conclusions or consequences. There is no risk in being wrong -- no embarrassment for arguing, vociferously, that Ryan Leaf would be a better quarterback than Peyton Manning. Unless you are an NFL scout, nobody will remember in three years whether you thought Marcell Dareus could hold his own against the run. We all get to watch and feel like we're part of it. This is the only sporting event where the participants, announcers and spectators all do the same thing: Watch highlights, talk about players, form opinions. General managers risk public humiliation and firing. The rest of us don't. For one weekend, it's a lot more fun to be watching the television than on it.
